Museum tips its hat to mountain toppers
On Nov. 18, the Swannanoa Valley Museum & History Center honored all those who, over the course of the year, finished the Swannanoa Valley Rim Explorer Series and the Valley History Explorer Series over the course of the year.
At the banquet, each finisher was awarded a Patagonia jacket or fleece sponsored by Black Mountain Savings Bank.
The Swannanoa Valley Rim Explorer Series is composed of 11 moderate-strenuous hikes that circumnavigate the Swannanoa Valley ridgeline. The Valley History Explorer Series is composed of eight moderate, three-mile hikes that take place in one of the eight small communities that make up the Swannanoa Valley.
The Rim Hike Series will restart on Jan. 20 with the Rhododendron Rim Hike. The Valley History Explorer Series will begin again on March 10 with the Bee Tree community hike. More information about each series is on the museum's website, swannanoavalleymuseum.org. Information will also be available at series "interest" meetings Jan. 9, 10, and 11 at the museum, REI and Black Dome respectively.
