Chesney Gardner named to All-WNC team

Western North Carolina's leading scorer and rebounder, Owen senior Chesney Gardner, was named to The Asheville Citizen Times All-WNC First Team for the second consecutive year.

The accolades continue to roll in for Chesney Gardner.

The Owen High School senior was named to The Asheville Citizen Times All-WNC Girls Basketball First Team on March 20.

Gardner, who signed to play for University of South Carolina Aiken after graduation, finished her senior season for the Warlassies as the leading scorer (26.4 points per game) and rebounder (10.1 rebounds per game) in WNC.

The selection to the All-WNC First Team was the second consecutive one for Gardner, who received an honorable mention on the squad as a sophomore.

Gardner started for the Warlassies for four seasons and helped lead the team to its first 20-win season in over a decade in 2017-18. She led the team in scoring and rebounding in every season of her career.

She scored 1,946 points and pulled down 1,004 rebounds for Owen.
