Rock the Quarry returns for 11th year on Sept. 15
A popular fundraiser that supports a pair of area non-profit organizations is returning to Grove Stone & Sand Co. in Black Mountain for its 11th year on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The Rock the Quarry Trail Challenge 5K & Kids Fun Run, which raises money for Black Mountain Home for Children and the Asheville Museum of Science, will get underway at 9:15 a.m.
The event, which kicks off with a quarter-mile fun run for children and is followed by a 5K through an active quarry, featured over 350 runners last year. Presented by Hedrick Industries and Carolina CAT, it also raised $66,000 for the organizations it supports.
Registration for the fun run, which is open to kids 10 and under, is $5.
The 5K takes runners along trails and into the mouth of the quarry which offers an open view of the surrounding mountains. Registration for the race is $30 until Friday, Sept. 14 and $35 on race day.
Packets can be picked up at Grove Stone & Sand Co. scale house from 4-6 p.m. on Sept. 14 or from 7:30-9 a.m. on the morning of the race at the picnic pavilion near the starting line.
