Montreat Cavaliers snap six-game skid with win at home
The Montreat College men's basketball team snapped a losing streak with an 86-77 win at home over Point University on Jan. 24.
The win was the first for the Cavaliers since Jan. 10.
Montreat started the season with nine straight wins before dropping its first game to Union College at the end of November. The Cavaliers bounced back with six straight wins and on Jan. 9 surged as high as number 12 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men's Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Following a 114-78 win at home over Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan on Jan. 10, Montreat lost 105-85 to Reinhardt University on the road Jan. 13. The Cavaliers fell to RV Allen University three days later by a score of 103-79, marking the first time they lost back-to-back contests this season.
Montreat would go on to drop six straight contests to AAC opponents between Jan. 13-24, when number 16 Union beat them for the second time this season.
The Cavaliers fell to fourth in the AAC with a conference record of 9-7 during the skid and dropped from 12 to 25 in the coaches poll released Jan. 23.
Montreat hosted Columbia International University on Jan. 30 (results not available as of deadline). The Cavs have five games, including three home games, remaining on their regular season schedule.
