Owen tennis player to continue playing in the Valley
Montreat College didn’t need to go far to find the newest member of its women’s tennis team. In fact, she was just right across the Swannanoa Valley at Owen High School.
The Cavaliers signed Owen senior Christine Osborne in a ceremony at the high school on Friday, April 22.
Head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Montreat, Andrew Cobb, is excited to add Osborne to the roster.
“Christine’s personality and desire to be at Montreat are some of the things that stood out to me,” he said. “She came out to a couple of our matches and ended up spending some time with some of our players on her own. So they’ve already bonded and that’s huge. She’s definitely someone that can come in and fit in right away.”
Osborne said she is “really excited” for the opportunity to join the tennis team, which concluded its inaugural season April 10.
“All of the girls, and even the guys on the men’s team, are really nice and welcoming,” she said. “I went to one of their matches and had the change to hit around with them a little, and I had the chance to hang out with some of the players on the team and get to know them.”
The Cavaliers were 2-11 in their first season.
