The Montreat College women’s lacrosse team opens its season on Saturday, Feb. 13 with an AAC conference game against Tennessee Wesleyan College.

TWC enters the contest ranked fifth nationally in the NAIA. Face-off is scheduled for noon at Montreat’s Black Mountain campus.

Montreat’s men’s lacrosse team will also play its home opener this Saturday when they face Morehouse College at 3 p.m.

This past weekend, the Cavs’ men’s squad traveled south to face the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

The Mocs led by 6-5 heading into halftime and pulled away in the second half for a 15-6 victory.

The Mocs are the four-time defending Deep South Conference champs of the National College Lacrosse League (NCLL).

The Cavs were paced by two goals apiece from attackman Devin Sigmon, and midfielder and faceoff specialist Gabe Debeus. Mark Switzer and Baby Boy Gallegos buried outside shots for the Cavs to round out the scoring. In the defensive zone, goalie Dakota Henson made 12 stops, and Evan Harris had two groundballs and added an assist in transition to Sigmon following a takeaway.

“There were a few flashes of brilliance, and there were a lot of things to work on,” said Cavs’ head coach Will McMinn after the game.

“We will hit the field, and the film, and the playbook, and everything else that needs to be hit. We’ll come out this Saturday and play better lacrosse,” he added.
