Miles Avery advances on ‘American Ninja’

OSEGA Gymnastics owner Miles Avery made the finals of The America Ninja Warrior television show, advancing in the round televised June 29.

Avery, 56, is one of the oldest contestants to appear on the show, offered by NBC. He advanced despite not finishing the final obstacle in the course. The finals will be aired July 13 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

More than 150 supporters gathered June 29 at Wild Wing Café on Long Shoals Road in Asheville to watch and cheer Avery on. Many said they will be back to support him for the finals.

Avery is the owner of OSEGA Gymnastics in Swannanoa. He is a four-time coach for the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team. At Ohio State University, he won five Big Ten championships and one NCAA title as head coach.

A party for Avery and The American Ninja Warrior finals airing will begin at 7 p.m. July 13 at Wild Wing Café on Long Shoals Road.
