Owen Middle says thank you, other Letters to the Editor

Couldn’t have done it without

all this wonderful help

Owen Middle School has completed phase one of our Natural Impact Initiative, a three-phase project spanning three years.

We introduce our first outdoor classroom, which we’ve named “From Roots to Wings,” to the OMS students for the upcoming 2015-16 school year.

Our students have been a huge part of the efforts needed to create the pollinator habitat classroom and to plant the American Chestnut Germplasm Orchard.

Our community partners are the other necessary component to our success.

OMS would like to thank the following for their various support which included grants, donations and countless volunteer hours:

The American Chestnut Foundation, The Black Mountain News, UNC master gardeners, Greybeard Realty, Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty and Black Mountain Rotary Club.

Also, YMCA after-school program, Builders Club sponsored by the Kiwanis Foundation, STEAM Club, Steve Haun of TanBark.

Aso, Edwards Landscaping, Michael Harrin, Christ Community Church, OMS PTO, OMS annual craft fair, Wendell Begley.

Also, various OMS parents and staff who contributed via gofundme.com, and OMS students, faculty and staff.

We couldn’t have done it without each of them, and look forward to our continued partnership.

Working together for a family’s last wish

I would like to extend a special thank you to Chief Steve Padgett and the Black Mountain Police Department for their hard work in helping to organize the funeral procession of a lifetime supporter of the Valley, Bud Hall, and helping to fulfill the wishes of his children, Jeff and Jimmy Hall and Carol Banks
