Hand in Hand back-to-school drive successful

On Friday, Aug. 24, members and friends of Hand in Hand, Inc. met at Tabernacle United Methodist Church to sort and deliver, to the schools in the Owen District, lots of school supplies. More than we have ever collected.

If you gave a pack of paper, crayons, pens, pencils, backpacks or other items, or if you provided funds with which to buy any of these items, this "thank you" is for you.

You have helped to make the school day better for students who don't have what they need for a good day.

By the end of the morning, six trucks and/or SUVs delivered a load of goods to each school in the Owen District. Thank you and God bless.

Appreciation for public works crew

Over the years the culvert on Lake Gap Road in front of our home has been gradually filling in to the point that heavy rains were washing over the road rather than into the creek. Our yard had been washing away, and it even damaged part of the road.

After reporting the issue, a public works crew came out to survey the problem and, only a few days later, arrived to fix it. They were friendly, professional and explained to us what they planned to do.

Our thanks to the crew that did such a wonderful job and exceeded our expectations, and to all the maintenance staff that keeps Black Mountain looking great.
