Scottie Shane Pressley
Scottie Shane Pressley, 43, of Swannanoa, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018. Scottie was born February 14, 1975 in Buncombe County. He was a Barber in the family business CUT-N-UP Barber Shop for 25 years and loved racing and riding motorcycles.
Surviving are his son, Austin Pressley of Raleigh; father, Bucky Pressley, of Black Mountain; mother, Brenda Turvin, of Marion and a brother, Brent Pressley (Sasha) of Black Mountain. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Mountain View Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Harwood Home for Funerals, harwoodhomeforfunerals.com.
Troy Lewis Allen
Troy Lewis Allen, 80, of Black Mountain, passed away May 24, 2018.
Troy was born January 8, 1938 in Yancey County, NC to the late Earl Allen and Ruby Pruitt. He lived most of his life in Buncombe County.
Troy is survived by his loving wife, Genevie of 62 years; his children, Kathy Hall (Douglas), Donald Allen (Elyshia), Daniel Allen (Susie), Stanley Allen (Angie), and Steve Allen (Crystal); 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Russell Allen (Shelby), Hoyt Pruitt (Jean), Arthur Allen (Kathy), Zelma Jo Waldrop; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Elwood Allen and Virgil Allen (Charlotte); and sister, Sandra Allen.
The family received friends Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 12-1 p.m. at Burgin’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with a celebration of life service immediately following. Arrangements are by Harwood Home for Funerals.
Will A. Melton
Will A. Melton, 92, of Black Mountain, passed away May 26, 2018.
He was born August 30, 1925 in Buncombe County to the late Julius and Josie Melton. Will was a veteran of the US Army, US Navy and US Air Force with 26 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer and Julius Melton; and sister, Mitsy Todd.
Will is survived by his sister, Georgia Alexander; nieces and nephews, Patricia Crook (Mike), Bobby Alexander, Sheila Swann (Mark), Harold Melton, Josie Eaves, and Jean Harmon (Charles); numerous great-nieces and -nephews; and caretaker, Tina Mayner.
A graveside service was held Monday, May 28, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Harwood Home for Funerals.
Sharon Lynell Morris
Sharon Lynell Morris, 53, of Black Mountain passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at her residence. Born in Henderson County, she was a former owner/ operator of a crochet shop, Knot Work.
Survivors include her parents, Gerald L. and Irma Jackson Morris of Asheville; son, Thomas Randall Tucker (Tiffany) of Morganton; granddaughter, Taylor; brother, Wayne Morris of Graham County; Janet Davis of Newberry, SC and Dianne Nolte of Laurel, Maryland.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family, and the online memorial is available at grocefuneralhome.com.
Kelly Ann Collins
Kelly Ann Collins of Shawnee, Colorado, went home to be with her heavenly Father on April 21, 2018. She was born Jan. 31,1964 in Mecklenburg County, NC and was the beloved fourth child of the late Robert Lerlen (Rip) Collins and Margaret Collins Blanck. She was a happy little girl that often hummed, whether playing or doing chores.
In 1971 the family moved to Watauga County, and used its savings to purchase property on 321 near Blowing Rock where her father opened "Adventure Outfitters," a store that featured clothing and supplies for outdoor adventures and provided guided outdoor adventures, such as Wildflower Treks, Hiking, and Canoe trips. Kelly especially loved going with her father on the New River Canoe trips. After High School she studied Anthropology at Appalachian State University.
In March of 1981 her father died. Kelly moved to Winston Salem to live with her chosen significant other, David Floro. They moved to Colorado in 1991.
Kelly is survived by her Mother Margaret and Step-father Chuck Blanck of Black Mountain, NC, brother Kent Collins, wife Sylvia, grandchildren Jared and Hailey of Locust, NC, daughter, Autumn and Donnie Austin of Leicester, brother Keith Collins and Margie of Raleigh, NC, sister Kristi C. Reed, Homer (Dick) Reed and sons, DJ of Asheville, Logan Turner and Angelica of Hiawassee, GA and Brennan Turner of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Uncle Kenneth and Aunt Shirley Barlowe, Lenoir, NC; Uncle Dan and Aunt Sherry Barlowe, of Charlotte, Aunt Judy Jones, Dudley Shoals, NC; and lots of cousins scattered across the U.S.
A Memorial Service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 8 at St. James Episcopal Church in Black Mountain, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Ministry of Hope Chaplaincy Program at the Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women.
