Doris Marie Blankenship Harvey

Midlothian, Virginia

Doris Marie Blankenship Harvey, 87, of Midlothian, VA died Thursday, November 10, 2016 at The Memory Center in Richmond.

Doris Harvey was born June 21, 1929 in Black Mountain, North Carolina, the daughter of the late John Wade Blankenship and Gloria Blankenship. She graduated from Blue Mountain College in Mississippi with a degree in English and later pursued studies in Library Science.

She married John Hopkins Harvey of Roseland, Virginia on April 5, 1958. Over the course of her career, she worked at the Baptist Foreign Mission Board and as a librarian with Norfolk Public Schools for twenty-five years, before retiring in 1992. In 2000, she and John moved from their long-time home in Virginia Beach to Midlothian, VA. In addition, they spent the winters at their home in University Park, FL from 1992 until 2007.

She is survived by her three children, Beth Marie Harvey and Dana Wells of Midlothian, VA, John Hersey (Johnny) Harvey and Scott Pope, of Tappahannock, VA and James Craig (Craig) Harvey and Jeannie Harvey, of Bradenton, FL. She is the oldest of ten children and is survived by two sisters, Lois and Nana, and six brothers, Joe, Frank, Donald, Ronald, Roy, and Marshall and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and one brother, J.W. Blankenship.

A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home in Roseland, VA. Burial followed in Jonesboro Cemetery.

Catina “Tina” Margaret Morgan

Fairview

Catina “Tina” Margaret Morgan, 38, of Fairview, died Saturday, November 5, 2016 at her residence.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of Tony and Jane “Kathy” Owenby Morgan of Fairview.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her son, Jessup Gage Morgan and her daughter, Montanna Katherine Morgan, both of Fairview, her paternal grandparents Margaret and Richard Morgan of Fairview, maternal grandmother, Vivian Owenby of Broad River, aunts, Doris Styles of Fairview, Wanda Morgan, Sandy (Ken) Kennedy both from Swannanoa, uncles, Lewis (Carolyn) Owenby of Broad River, Kenneth Owenby of Spartanburg, as well as several counsins, and special friends.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 11 at Laurel Springs Baptist Church in Fairview. The family received friends at the church immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Catina's (Tina's) memory to either Laurel Springs Baptist Church, PO Box 1424, Fairview, NC 28730 or to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Inez Moss May

Black Mountain

Inez Moss May, 89, of Black Mountain passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016.

Mrs. May was born July 14, 1927 in Henderson County near the Pisgah National Forest to the late Rev. W.R. and Mrs. Lala Allen Moss.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Mrs. May is survived by her husband of 62 years, William “David” May; daughter, Lala Bowman (Jim) of Columbia, SC; brother, R.V. Moss; and grandsons, Ian and Aidan Buckley.

Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park. Arrangements are in the care of Harwood Home for Funerals, harwoodhomeforfunerals.com.
