Anderson,Candler

Mark Eugene Anderson, 57, of Candler passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his home.

A native of King County, WA, he was the son of the late Carol Anderson. He grew up in the Asheville area, and had proudly served in the U.S. Army. He had previously resided in Black Mountain before moving to Candler.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his adopted parents, Norma and Sonny Horne.

Surviving is his son, Jeffrey Lee Johnson of Candler; siblings, Dale Miles of Seattle, WA, Michael Horne and wife, Karen, Vicky Bartlett and husband, Gary, and Kelly Horne and husband, Jimmy, all of the Asheville area.

Covie Norton

Dockery,

Swannanoa

Covie Norton Dockery, 84, of Swannanoa passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Dockery was born April 30, 1932 in Madison County to the late M.P. and Dora Buckner Norton. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved the Lord. Covie will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Dockery, son, Bruce Dockery, and brothers, JD, John, and Shadrack Norton.

Mrs. Dockery is survived by her sons, James Dockery (Judy) and Bryon Dockery; brothers, Roscoe and Frank Norton; grandchildren, Bruce Dockery, Billy Maynor (Lisa), Bryana Dockery, Jeffrey Willet, and Kim Dockery; and great-grandchildren, Jaxson Maynor and Mason Willet.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Monday, May 23, 2016 at 12 p.m. at Harwood Home for Funerals with Rev. Randy Gregg officiating. Burial was in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family received friends immediately following the service. Grandsons and special friends Brandon Flynn, Gerald Gregg, and John Russell served as pallbearers. Albert Lewis Harris,

Black Mountain

Albert Lewis Harris, 77, of Black Mountain passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Mr. Harris was born May 23, 1938 in Buncombe County to the late Frank and Ruth Harris. He was employed with Old Fort Finishing and attended Tabernacle United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Simmons and brother, Billy Harris. Albert was survived by his wife, Lannie E. Harris; sisters, Sarah Raines, Margaret Tuttle, and Susan Kendall; and brother, John Harris. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donald M. Harvey,

Jemison, Alabama

Donald M. Harvey, 102 years old, is home with The Lord, May 15, 2016. Born in Cottage Hill, FL, he was the fourth of six children. He personified patience and generosity. Mr. Harvey lived in the Black Mountain area until just a few years ago.

He is survived by his children Bob, Elaine, Phil, Julie, and Tim; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, wanting all to meet him again in heaven. He owned Harvey Hardware starting in the 1930s in Pensacola, FL. He retired in 1974 and enjoyed golf, fishing and delivering Meals on Wheels, into his 90s. He requested to donate to your favorite charity in lieu of gifts.

Beverly Damaris Page Edmonstone Glenn,

Black Mountain

Beverly Damaris Page Edmonstone Glenn of Black Mountain, formerly of Charlotte NC, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016.

Beverly was born in Greenville, Mississippi on May 15, 1934, the daughter of Charles E. Page and O’Mara Clyde Lee and sister to Lee Page, all of whom preceded her in death.

Beverly graduated from Western Carolina University in 1956 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She dedicated her professional life to educating children in elementary schools in Charlotte, Black Mountain & Swannanoa, NC from 1958 until she retired in 1991 while also raising 6 children of her own. Even after her retirement, she could not stay out of the classroom and offered her creativity and experience as a volunteer at WD Williams Elementary School.

Beverly is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Buddy Everette Davis and her six children: Bruce Edmonstone (Dawn), Damaris Pittman (Terry), Charla Edmonstone-Pickens (Pierre), Sharon Tokanel (Shawn), Martha Edmonstone, and Tara Reese (David). Her 11 grandchildren: Chloe, Chase, Christian, Elias, Sierra, Spencer, Seth, Brittany, Zachary, Noah and Samantha, and 4 great-grandchildren: Jessica, Tyler, Madison and Hayden were a great joy in her life.

Michael Kevin Penley, 57, of Black Mountain passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016. Mr. Penley was born September 20, 1958 in Buncombe County to Max and the late Edith Penley.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his girlfriend, Carmella Shook; her son, Micah Shook and his children, Lexie and Tristan; brother, Mark Penley and wife, Linda; and niece and nephew, Heather Schoff and Chris Penley.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church with Reverends Randy Stone and Frank Cantrell officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family received friends iafter the church service. Arrangements are in the care of Harwood Home for Funerals.
