Shirley Kendall, 68, of Swannanoa passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015.
Shirley was born December 27, 1946 in Buncombe County. She was a lifelong member of Bee Tree Christian Church, and was a registered nurse for over 40 years. Shirley enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, sewing, canning, visiting the lake and Ocean Isle Beach, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Sybil Baker Vess; and stepfather, Harold Vess.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Craven Kendall; sons, Lee Kendall, and Brian Kendall and his wife, Julie; grandchildren, Bryce, Lauren, Harrison, and Davis; siblings, Thomas Crabtree II and Pamela Leigh; and a large extended family.
The family received friends Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 12-1 p.m. at Bee Tree Christian Church. A Celebration of Life Service was held at Bee Tree Christian Church with Pastor Mike Siemens officiating. Burial followed at 2 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Joseph Robert Burrell

Joseph Robert Burrell, 93, of Black Mountain passed away July 27, 2015.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Maynor Burrell; and son, Michael Burrell.
Joseph is survived by his sons, Christopher and Jeffrey Burrell; 3 nephews; and 8 nieces.

Boyce E. Crow
Black Mountain
Boyce E. Crow, 94, of Black Mountain, passed away July 31, 2015.
Mr. Crow was born April 14, 1921 in South Carolina to the late Alec and Myrtle Massey Crow. Boyce was a member, and former deacon and trustee, of Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church. He retired from Drexel Heritage, Ethan Allen Furniture, and Lifeway at Ridgecrest Conference Center. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel A. Crow; siblings, Neal Crowe, Annie Crow Bartlett, and Ruth Edwards Burgess.
Boyce is survived by his daughters, Kathy Mundy (Ricky), Rita Nelon (George), and Tammy Hess; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Barbara and Robert Harris.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Stone and Rev. Frank Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.

Marsha Jean Glenn Stafford

Marsha Jean Glenn Stafford, born October 4, 1944 in Asheville, NC died July 31, 2015.
She was the daughter of the late June Glenn, Jr. (2006) and Esther Armstrong Glenn (1983). Marsha was also preceded in death by her grandparents, June Glenn, Sr. (1965), Mary Ellen Melton Glenn (1975), Rufus Sampson Armstrong (1964) and Corrie Allison Armstrong (1939); her sister, Emily Armstrong Glenn (2010); and son, Kenneth Edwin Stafford (2000).
Marsha is survived by her children, James H. Stafford, Jr. and wife Joy, Robin Lee Stafford and wife Mollie; grandchildren, Dustin, Tina and Michelle Stafford, Phillip Stafford and wife Amanda, Jessica and Lee Stafford, Nichole and Dalton Payne; great-grandchildren, R.J., James Vaughn, Aleah, Malachi, Chanel and Colton Stafford; and extended family, Rick and Betty Jo Mills, Edith Havlicek, and several cousins and special friends.
She was a lifelong, fifth-generation resident of Black Mountain, NC and a lifelong member of Black Mountain United Methodist Church where she was active in many areas of the church.
Marsha enjoyed genealogy research and was a member of the Old Buncombe Co. Genealogical Soc., Old Tryon Co. NC Genealogical Soc., Genealogy Soc. of Rowan Co. NC, and the New England Historical Genealogical Soc. She belong to the Edward Buncombe Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Unaka Chapter Daughters of the American Colonist in which she held various offices. Marsha was also a member of the NC Society of Mayflower Descendants through Henry Sampson, and Clan McIntosh of NA and Armstrong Clan Soc. She was a longtime patron of the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, attending many years with her family.
She retired from the State of North Carolina after 38 years. Marsha worked at WNC Hospital/Black Mountain Center in the hospital lab and then in purchasing. She continued to volunteer there after retirement.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Monday, August 3, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Black Mountain United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family received friends two hours before the service time at the church.
