Nell Mitchell Aycock

Nell Mitchell Aycock died on June 20, 2015, in Charlotte, North Carolina. A memorial service was held in the chapel at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, with reception afterwards in the parlor. Interment followed later in Wakefield, Virginia.
Nell was born in 1919 and lived most of her life in Currituck County, North Carolina, with her husband Frank Bayard Aycock and their three children, Frank, James and Nell. She was an active volunteer with the library and her church, and a Federal employee for twenty-five years. Nell was a bright and engaging woman with a sharp wit. She was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother. She had many friends with whom she played bridge and golf.
Preceding Nell in death were her husband Frank Bayard Aycock, Jr., her parents James E. Mitchell and Sadie Britton Mitchell, and her sisters Frances Kneeland and Helen Bond. She leaves a loving family behind, including son Frank B. Aycock III and wife De Aycock of Charlotte, N.C.; son James E. Aycock and wife Patsy Keever of Asheville, N.C.; daughter Nell Aycock Richardson and husband G. Sidney Buchanan of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe W. Hudgins
Black Mountain
Joe W. Hudgins, 97, of Black Mountain, formerly of Asheville, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the N.C. State Veterans Nursing Home in Black Mountain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Eunice Hudgins. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Kaye Goodrich of Asheville; son, William D. Hudgins of Asheville; and a grandson, Scott A. Farris of North Little Rock, AR.
Joe was a real estate builder and developer in the Asheville area in the 1960s and 1970s. Joe had suffered a massive heart attack at his church in 2011. Patrick Ryan, a church member and nurse at Mission Hospital, performed life-saving measures and allowed Joe's family to enjoy sharing their lives together for another 4 years.
Joe was a US Navy veteran of World War II, and was interred in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015 with Military Honors.

Margaret B. Aydelotte
Black Mountain
Dr. Margaret Aydelotte, 81, of Black Mountain died on June 21, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 13 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Asheville.
Margaret Walker grew up in England and won a scholarship to Cambridge University, from which she earned three degrees, including a Ph.D., and which granted her a faculty position.
In 1961, she married James Aydelotte, then a graduate student at Cambridge. They later came to the USA and taught at Tarkio College MO, University of Iowa, and Franklin College IN. Margaret then taught medical students at Indiana University, and did research in osteoarthritis at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. Margaret and James were also blessed with three children.
In 1998, they retired early to WNC, first in Asheville and then at Givens Highland Farms in Black Mountain. Margaret continued teaching in New York, Asheville and Montreat. She volunteered at Health Adventure, and was on the Board of the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. She was an active Rotarian for 20 years and served on many church committees.
She is survived by her husband James; two children: John-Mark Aydelotte (Debora) of Webster Groves MO and Marian Walker (Gary Conlon) of Dubuque IA; five grandchildren; and two sisters in England.
