Water quality may change during test

The Black Mountain Public Services Department, in coordination with the Black Mountain Fire Department, will be testing and flushing Black Mountain fire hydrants from Monday, Aug. 3 through about Thursday, Aug. 13. Flushing will begin each day at about 8:30 a.m.

Black Mountain water customers may experience discolored water. If this occurs, run your cold water for a short period of time before drinking, cooking or doing laundry.

Polish your job interviewing skills

A job readiness workshop will be offered free of charge at Black Mountain Library at 2 p.m. Aug. 11. The class - Interview 101: Common Questions and Interview Practice - will be taught by Goodwill employment specialists and is designed to teach the best practices for job searches, creating or updating a resume and job interview preparation. It’s open to all who are looking for a job or seeking a career changes. To register, call Mike at 298-9023 to register.

Laughter for Wellness returns to Lakeview Center

The Black Mountain Recreation and Parks Department is offering Laughter for Wellness at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 12 at Lakeview Center. Laughter has been scientifically proven to boost the immune system and reduce stress, so come ready to laugh out loud. The event is free.

Alderman Showers holds regular meeting

Black Mountain alderman Carlos Showers will hold his regular town hall meeting at the Black Mountain Library at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6. All are invited to bring whatever concerns they may have.

Music at library’s Lunch Monday

Musicians bring the indie rock experience to family audiences at Lunch Monday, a program at the Black Mountain Library at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29. The show is an energetic, musical salute to the stuff of childhood, such as blowing bubbles, pushing buttons, going to the library and getting dizzy. The library is located at 105 Dougherty St. Call 250-4756 for more.

Free croquet lessons offered near lake

Free croquet lessons will be given to anyone ages 12 and up by the Black Mountain Croquet Club at 1 p.m. Tuesdays, 7 p.m. Thursdays and 1 p.m. Saturdays at the croquet club at Lake Tomahawk during June, July and August. Instructors will be club members.

New exhibit at Red House Gallery to open

The opening reception for the 48th Annual Juried Members Exhibit of the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League will be held at the Red House Studios & Gallery from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at the Red House Studios & Gallery in Black Mountain next to the Monte Vista Hotel. The show runs through Monday, Sept. 28.
