Lake Tomahawk duplicate bridge results
The Lake Tomahawk Duplicate Bridge Group played at the Lakeview Center on Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain on Aug. 21. Coming in first was the team of David Hirsch and Roger Fenna while Bill Abramson and Barbara Lilenfeld came in second. Larry Pearlman and Marti Saltzman finished third. Local photographer's gallery enters final week
This is the last week to see Vietnam: Some of Its People by photographer Herb Way on display in the Upper Gallery at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. The show has drawn a diverse collection of viewers throughout its run, which ends Aug. 31. About 20 large format images will be on display which capture contemporary Vietnam through Way’s lens. The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is located at 225 W. State Street. The Upper Gallery is free to the public and open Monday through Friday 10 – 5pm. Regional Seawind Championship coming to Lake Tomahawk
The Black Mountain Yacht Club will host the Region 3 Seawind Championship at Lake Tomahawk on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9. Skippers from eight states are invited to attend this regatta, with the reigning national and regional champion already commited to attend. The public is invited to come out and cheer on our local skippers as they take on some of the best skippers in the country.
Gardening workshop at Black Mountain Library
Do your children like to garden? Come join us and bring your kids to Gardening with Children event held at Black Mountain Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. Master Gardeners will be having free hands-on gardening activities for kids. Come learn something new with them. All kids are welcome, activities focus on age ranges from 5 to 12. This event will be an hour long and held in the Education Room. It's sponsored by Black Mountain Blooms Seed Lending Library. Questions, email email@example.com. Come, grow and learn.
Calling all choristers
Black Mountain Presbyterian Church is looking for singers to participate in One Day One Choir, a Community Sing for Peace, at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21.
A global peace initiative which will use the harmonious power of singing together to unite people around the world for peace. Participate in singing songs for peace and listen to choral music offered as a witness for peace.
Choristers' rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church

Fundraiser in honor of Pam Brown
The public is invited to a fundraiser for the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry’s, Hope for Tomorrow project, in memory of Pam Brown. Some of Pam’s friends are hosting this fundraiser to remember their sweet friend who loved this community, people, and the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry.
Pam graduated from Owen High in 1974 and after graduating from Lenoir-Rhyne and Appalachian State, began her teaching career. She taught at Valley Springs Middle School for almost three decades before retiring. Upon retirement, she began working at Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry where she loved helping those in need. She loved serving others.
Pam also loved New York City where she went on several trips with friends, planning every detail. This fundraiser event consists of a NYC themed “Little Italy” dinner and a silent auction. It will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Swannanoa. Suggested dinner donations are $20 for adults and $10 for children.
