First Baptist Church of Black Mountain invites the public to a community Lenten lunch and worship service on Wednesday, March 15 at noon at Ridgecrest Conference Center, 1 Ridgecrest Dr., Ridgecrest. The event is free, and no reservations are required. For more , contact 669-6461.
Hand in Hand sponsors a spaghetti lunch
Hand in Hand, an organization that assists students with lunch money, coats, shoes, textbooks and more, will have a spaghetti lunch from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Grove Stone Baptist Church, 1568 Grovestone Road. The price is $7 adults, $4 for children under 12. The menu will be homemade spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. Take-out orders will be available. All proceeds will go to aid students in the Owen School District.
Veterans and friends hold a St. Patrick’s Day bash
VFW Post 9157 at 165 Cragmont Road will have a St. Patrick’s Day celebration from 2 p.m. “until” on Saturday, March 18. All are welcome to attend.
Dispose of unused prescription drugs with police department
Black Mountain police, in cooperation with NC SAFEKIDS and Operation Medicine Drop, will sponsor a medicine “take-back” event from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 at Health Ridge Pharmacy. Safely dispose of your expired, unused prescription drugs or over-the-counter medication and keep them out of the wrong hands.
Operation Medicine Drop cannot accept biohazard materials.
Lovejoy and Zawaki prevail in recent bridge game
In recent duplicate bridge news, Elizabeth Lovejoy and Ed Zawaki came in first in the March 7 Lake Tomahawk Bridge Group game at Lakeview Center. Jackie McNeese and Bill Anixter took second place, and Helen Kraus and Dot Kaylor came in third among all pairs.

On Saturday, April 1 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Black Mountain merchants will hold a sidewalk sale. Participating merchants will offer deals on new merchandise as well as vintage, slightly used and unique items.

Swannanoa church stages Easter dramatic musical

Certified nursing assistant info meeting precedes class
The next certified nursing assistant informational meeting in the area will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in the G-2 Training Room at Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center.
The meeting is to discuss with prospective students the next CNA class (May 1) to be offered at the center and what it takes to participate in the class. Attending the meeting is the first step in getting into the free class. The cost of the class is $178, to be paid first day of class. The cost of the state test is $101, to be paid the last day of class.

“Music in Art” is theme of coming art exhibit
The Arrowhead Artists and Artists League in Old Fort invites artists to participate in a judged show, “Music in Art,” at the Arrowhead Gallery and Studios, 78-C S. Catawba Ave., Old Fort. The date for dropping off work is Thursday, April 6.
