Swannanoa church holds its fall celebration

Swannanoa Church of God will hold its Fall Celebration from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at the church, 199 Wilson Avenue, Swannanoa. There will be games, pumpkin painting, apply bobbing, popcorn, cotton candy and more.

Fire Department auxiliary holds chili fundraiser

On Saturday, Oct. 22 from 5-7 p.m., the Broad River Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a chili fundraiser at Broad River Community Center, 46 Broad River VFD Road. The dinner includes homemade chili, fresh hand-tossed salad, a big baked potato, drink and dessert for a suggested $5 donation. All are invited to celebrate and salute Broad River’s firefighters and first responders.

Trio of concerts scheduled for Christmount

Three local groups will perform concerts at Christmount. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, Twice Blest with Donna Marie Todd and Andy Gwynn will present a humorous and musical concert. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, Freewheelin' Mamas, an Asheville trio, will bring their unique blend of harmonies and instrumentation. On Thursday, Oct. 27, Laura Boosinger and the Midnight Plowboys will round out the week. All concerts are 7-8:30 p.m. at Christmount. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Call 669-8977 more.

Even pooches want to dress for Halloween

Dress up your pooch and join the 14th annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade, held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Town Square in Black Mountain. It's free to participate in, free to watch and loads of fun. The Costume Contest will be held immediately after the parade ($5 pet only costume, $8 pet and person costume). There will be prizes for all winners and a cash prize for the grand prize winner. Registration for the contest is 1-2:30 p.m. at Town Square. For more, call Bone-A-Fide Pet Boutique at 669-0706. Organizers will accept donations of dog/cat food, blankets, sheets and towels at registration. A portion of registration fees will go to local pet charities.

Homer’s Chapel puts on barbecue supper

Homer’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church will hold a barbecue supper from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the church, 202 Chapel Road, Black Mountain. The price - $7 - gets you barbecue and fixings (baked beans, potato salad, slaw, roll, drink and dessert). Proceeds go to the Homer’s Chapel Gleaners Circle.
