Ursula Neuberg’s painting go on sale
If you were one of Ursula Neuberg’s friends who admired her paintings or wished you had bought one of them before she passed away, her daugher Linda Willis is selling about 15 of the paintings on Sept. 12. Anything Fiber Sale moves to Warren Wilson College
The seventh annual Anything Fiber Sale will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa. A yard sale for fiber people, expect to find (or sell) yarns, fiber, fabric, tools, spinning wheels, looms, fleece and anything related to the fiber arts. The Anything Fiber Sale is a resource and networking event for beginners and professionals in the fiber arts. Its location at Warren Wilson College is new this year. Broad River holds craft sale to support its firefighters
The Broad River Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a craft sale and yard sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Broad River Community Center, 46 Broad River VFD Road, off N.C. 9. It is inviting crafters of all kinds to display and sell items that might include woodworking, needle crafts, metal work, pottery, candle-making, jewelry, painting, canning, beekeeping, stationary, cards, photos and any others. Artists, get ready for October in Black Mountain
The Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League is calling all plein air artists to participate in the Paint The Town event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 10. Artists will position themselves around downtown Black Mountain during the day to capture images of this beautiful small town nestled in the Swannanoa Valley. The entry fee is $15 for members.
Artists will hang their day's work that evening at the Wet Paint Show and Sale at the Red House, 310 W. State St., Black Mountain. That evening’s reception will be 5-7 p.m.

Quilters rally again for traumatized children
Come and join the workday for quilters who would like to learn about quilting while making quilts for hospitalized and traumatized children through the Linus Project. The group will meet on Friday, Aug. 28 from 1-3 p.m. on the lower level of the Lakeview Center at Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain. No experience is necessary. Fabric has been donated, and experienced quilters are available to teach and help out. There is no charge. A sewing machine is not needed. However, projects can be taken home to be finished. Donate blood and get a free hair cut
The next American Red Cross blood drive in the Swannanoa Valley will be 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Harley Davidson of Asheville, 20 Patton Cove Road, Swannanoa. Donors of all blood types – especially types O negative, A negative and B negative – and platelet donors are urged to give. The American Red Cross and Sport Clips Haircuts are teaming up to offer a free haircut coupon to those who come out to donate blood or platelets during September. Those who present to give blood or platelets Sept. 1-30 will receive a coupon for a free haircut via email a few days after their donation. The coupon is valid through Nov. 8, and donors must have a valid email address on record to receive the coupon.
Max Woodcock Bridge Club reports latest
Sixteen players faced off in a Howell rotation game at the Woodcock bridge club on Aug. 18.
Turning in their usual strong performance, Elizabeth Lovejoy and Barbara Lilenfeld came in first by a good margin. John Gilbert and Walt Tolley tied for second, with Ruth Kent and George Acherman. It was truly a very tight match.

Owen High Class of ’90 holds reunion
Owen High School Class of 1990 will hold its 25th-year class reunion at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Owen High School football game. See some art and then sip some wine
The second to last Stroll & Sip happens from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 at participating shops throughout downtown Black Mountain. The wine and conversation event takes in gallery/show places including Chifferobe, Mountain Nest Gallery of Art and Handcrafts tn Nest, CW Moose, Visions of Creation and The Curiosity Shoppe, which will host a reception for local artist Jim Watts.
