Holidays start with Deck the Trees
Thanksgiving is only days away and will be followed closely by the special Black Mountain tradition of decorating trees to benefit the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry Fuel Fund. Decorating for the sixth annual Deck the Trees event begins on Monday, Nov. 28 at the Monte Vista Hotel.
In true Black Mountain spirit, Deck The Trees is an annual fundraiser to benefit the ministry’s fuel fund that helps disadvantaged Valley residents stay warm during the cold winter months. Last winter, Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry helped more than 1,200 families with heating costs.
Everyone is urged to visit the more than 35 decorated trees at the Monte Vista Hotel and vote with their dollars for their favorite trees. Every voting dollar goes to the SVCM Fuel Fund. Checks may be made out to SVCM, Fuel Fund.
This is a fun way to begin the Christmas holidays while also helping neighbors in need. Everyone is invited to view the trees at the hotel at 308 W. State St., Black Mountain from Dec. 2-25 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
The ticketed gala to preview the trees is Dec. 1. Kids can get photos with Santa from 4-7:30 p.m. Dec. 5. The tree with the most dollar votes and other awards will be recognized 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 15.
