Hunger walk raises more than $45,000

Staff reports

Sunday, Oct. 9 was an absolutely perfect day for this year’s Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry Walk for Hunger.

The event attracted a record number of walkers - some 450-500- and sponsors this year. Everyone raised $45,650.

The walk helps raise awareness of those in our community facing hunger. The ministry’s “client choice” food pantry allows clients to choose from available items on the shelves.

Monies raised from this year’s walk will help SVCM supplement food items not collected through food drives.

“It is great to see walkers of all ages participating in this event,” executive director Cheryl Wilson said. “Everyone walking passes the ministry, which allows them to see exactly why they are walking and what their money is funding.”

Next year’s walk is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8.
