Only 97 days left until the Deck the Trees season

Deck the Trees, the annual fundraising event for the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry, has become a major Christmas season event in the Swannanoa Valley. Organizers said this year’s event on Dec. 1 will be even bigger and better for everybody.

Yes, it is time to start thinking about Christmas, they said. Deck the Trees for the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry needs people who enjoy decorating trees. Businesses, organizations and individuals who want to let others know they care are invited. Groups of friends with Christmas tree ideas are especially invited.

The public’s favorite tree is selected by the financial donations they leave behind. All voting ballots are actually dollars, all of which go to the ministry’s Fuel Fund. The fuel fund is distributed to Valley residents who need some help with heating bills during the winter.

In 2016, there were 31 beautifully decorated trees. The Black Mountain Fire Department used fire hose as garland. Allen Arcand created a tree totally from wooden slats. Sweet! on Cherry Street tempted all with its wonderful candy.

This theme this year is “So This Is Christmas.”
