Owen Middle School has completed the first phase of its Natural Impact Initiative on campus and now wants the public to hear about what’s coming up. It invites everyone — residents, parents, staff and students — to its Community Stakeholder meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 in the school media center.

The school will showcase ideas generated by Asheville Design Center in partnership with the school’s Natural Impact Initiative team. OMS has a mission to connect students to their natural Appalachian heritage and to create outdoor learning and recreational spaces to help it realize its vision to open the school campus for use by the community and local schools.

During the May 10 meeting, the school will present what has been completed during the first phase of the project, as well as what is underway and planned for the second and third phases. All will tie the school’s 40-plus acres together with walking trails and an additional outdoor classroom.

Participants can take a tour of the school and its campus to see the project’s completed and proposed additions. Dinner/refreshments will be provided. If you are unable to attend and want to receive more information, contact principal Heidi Von Dohlen at 686-7739.
