Incidents and arrests in the Swannanoa Valley

The Black Mountain Police Department and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department reported these recent incidents and arrests.

Incidents

Dec. 28

Larceny was reported on the 500 block of N.C. 9. A checkbook valued at $20, a driver’s license valued at $30, a mobile phone valued at $600, a gift card valued at $100, four credit cards and a purse valued at $40 were reported stolen.

Dec. 29

Counterfeiting was reported on the 500 block of N.C. 9.

Larceny was reported on the 100 block of East Street. A lawnmower valued at $250 was reported stolen.

Dec. 30

Larceny from a person was reported on the 200 block of Tabernacle Road.

Jan. 1

Assault on a female was reported on the first block of Fortune Street.

Jan. 2

Aggravated assault and simple physical assault were reported on the first block of Old Lakey Gap Road.

Damage to real property was reported on the 200 block of New Salem Road.

Larceny from a motor vehicle was reported on the 100 block of Walnut Cove Road. Cash totaling $150 and a purse valued at $100 were reported stolen.

Jan. 3

Aggravated assault and DWI were reported at the intersection of U.S. 70 and Blue Ridge Road.

Jan. 4

Larceny was reported on the 100 block of North Blue Ridge Road. A tablet valued at $300 was reported stolen.

Jan. 5

Vandalism was reported on the 3000 block of North Fork Left Fork Road.

Fraud was reported on the 2300 block of U.S. 70.

Jan. 6

Larceny from a building was reported on the 400 block of Rhododendron Avenue. Cash totaling $300 was reported stolen.

Arrests

Dec. 30

David Shane Stafford, 42, of Spruce Pine, was arrested on the 600 block of West State Street and charged with second-degree trespassing, assault on a female, kidnapping, injury to personal property and assault by strangulation.

Dec. 31

Steven Luther Daugherty, 57, of Black Mountain, was arrested on the 400 block of Blue Ridge Road and charged with driving while impaired, operating vehicle with no insurance, canceled or revoked tag and possession of an open container in passenger area of vehicle.

Wesley Bryan Stamey, 39, of Swannanoa, was arrested on the 2800 block of U.S. 70 and charged with driving while impaired and failure to reduce speed.

Jan. 1

Sara Elizabeth Castillo, 23, of Asheville, was arrested on the 2200 block of U.S. 70 and charged with resisting public officers.

Jan. 2

Christopher Euell Griggs, 45, of Black Mountain, was arrested on the first block of Old Lakey Gap Road and charged with assault by strangulation and assault on female.

Jan. 3

Darrell Antonio Harper, 38, of Black Mountain, was arrested at a business on the 2300 block of U.S. 70 and charged with two counts of larceny and forgery of instrument.

Alonzo Hoyle Clontz, Jr., 40, of Swannanoa, was arrested on the 3000 block of U.S. 70 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death and driving while impaired.
