New mayor, new town hall location in Montreat

New Montreat mayor Tim Helms heralded a new direction for the town’s governance Dec. 10 by announcing a proposed town hall building would not be built on Florida Terrace.

Helms, sworn in as mayor, also said that the town would revisit plans to build a bridge on Texas Road. A crowd of about 90 people applauded the town hall decision.

Also sworn in during the meeting were commissioners Bill Gilliland and Kitty Fouche, who each received 250 votes in November’s election after campaigning to have the town hall built somewhere other than Florida Terrace.
