In this SVFAL show, artists curate themselves

From staff reports

Members of the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League were challenged to select two of their works they most wanted to share with visitors to the Red House Gallery. The new show, entitled “Artist’s Choice,” opens from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.

The show, which runs through Feb. 1, will include two- and three-dimensional work made from a wide variety of materials including metal, clay, fiber, glass, wax, pastel, ink, pencil, paint, pixels and mixed media. The show should especially appeal to people interested in the creative process.

“The artists are encouraged to share a few words about what influenced them to create each art work,” curator Coleen Hester said. “Artist quotes will be included with the artwork that will be displayed in the gallery. This exhibit will give the viewers a glimpse into the creative process and what motivated the development of each piece.

“It’s a wonderful way to engage visitorsin understanding the artist’s perspective and how an idea becomes reality in the artistic process.”

The Red House Gallery is at 310 W. State St., Black Mountain.
