Chamber taking apps for parade

From staff reports

The Black Mountain-Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce is taking applications at the Visitor Center and at exploreblackmountain for its Christmas Parade.

The chamber hopes entries reflect the joy and happiness of the season, as well as this years theme - Joy to the World. Grand marshall this year will be Kenny Ford, who retired as Owen High School’s football coach. Entry fee is $20.

Entry lineup begins at 2:30 p.m. behind Tractor Supply, Black Mountain Elementary School, beside Super 8 Motel, and on Flat Creek Road. Line up positions will be given at check-in. To be judged, units/floats must be decorated and in their assigned positions by 3 p.m. All entries must be decorated and have a sign or banner identifying their organization, church, school, etc. Ribbons are awarded for first-, second- and third-place entries.

The parade begins at 4 p.m. and runs down State Street from Flat Creek Road past Craigmont Road, where it disburses along U.S. 70. There are usually about 100 entries and more than 1,000 participants. Parade is over by 5 p.m.

“Circle of Lights” presented by Town of Black Mountain / Recreation & Parks Department at Lake Tomahawk will begin after the parade. “Circle of Lights” is a community celebration with luminaries, music, food, hayrides, bonfire and Santa.
