Rock the Quarry donates $45,000

From staff reports

This year represented a milestone for the Rock the Quarry 5K and Kids Fun Run, held annually at Grove Stone & Sand.

With the help of a record number of runners attending this year’s race and a growing cast of sponsors, the event raised $45,000 for local charities.

Representative from Hedrick Industries, the company that owns Grove Stone & Sand, presented Black Mountain Home for Children Tom Campbell with a check for $30,000 last week. The money will go into the organization’s everyday fund that supports the daily lives of the children.

The other beneficiary of Rock the Quarry - Colburn Earth Science Museum - received $15,000. Those funds will go to the museum’s capital campaign, which is raising money to move the museum to a new location.
