Warren Wilson College on another ‘best’ list

From staff reports

Warren Wilson College is one of the “Most Zen Schools,” according to Her Campus, a college journalist-written website that describes itself as “the #1 global community for college women.”

Her Campus ranks the private, liberal arts college fifth out of 10 schools providing activities, classes and programs to help students de-stress. The University of Vermont, Lewis & Clark College, Hampshire College and the University of Washington, among others, also made the list.

Her Campus credits Warren Wilson College’s “Zen-like atmosphere” on its Wellness Center, which provides students with “classes in yoga, vegetarian cooking, and workshops on topics such as herb identification, gender-specific health, healing arts, meditation and Earth skills.

The center is also home to the student apothecary crew, which promotes the use of homeopathic products. “Sounds pretty Zen to us,” the Her Campus team wrote on its website.

Also recently, U.S. News & World Report named Warren Wilson College as one of the 245 “Best National Liberal Arts Colleges” for 2016. The 2016 list marks the seventh consecutive year the college has been ranked.

Additionally, the college’s service program was one of 26 college service-learning programs recently noted by U.S. News & World Report as “outstanding examples of academic programs that are believed to lead to student success.” During the 2014-15 academic year, 783 Warren Wilson College students worked with 257 community partner agencies to provide 58,015 hours of service.

In the last year, 24 college faculty members offered 44 service-learning courses in every division and in more than 10 individual academic departments.

CollegeRanker.com also named the college one of the 40 “Best College Farms in America.”
