Fighting hunger in a tiny tiara

Riot Burgin of Black Mountain won the N.C. Miss Heart of the USA's Queen of Hearts pageant in Raleigh on Aug. 22.
The daughter of Bryant and Jessica Burgin (and sister of Kye Lytle), 1-year-old Riot has had the most nonperishable food items year to date donated in her name to the Miss Heart of the USA Pageant. Helping families in need, she has been responsible for the donation of 3,430 food items to local and state food banks.
The state’s representative, Riot is headed to Orlando, Florida in November to compete in the national Miss Heart of the USA.
To help her wipe out hunger, contact her parents or drop off in-date nonperishable food donations at Cove Auto Repair, 101 N. Dougherty St., Black Mountain.
