Man charged with robbing Swannanoa convenience store
An Old Fort man is behind bars on charges of robbing a Swannanoa convenience store.
Joshua Wayne Burgin, 27, was charged Thursday with common law robbery and assault on a female, according to warrants at the Buncombe County magistrate’s office.
Burgin is accused of taking $875 in cash from the Stop N Go store at 1930 U.S. 70 on Aug. 8, according to warrants. No weapon was used, but he’s accused of pushing a female clerk during the robbery
Burgin was being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $20,000 secured bond.
In an unrelated incident, a Swannanoa man was charged with embezzling from an Asheville nonprofit.
Police say Christopher James Badford, 46, of 222-A Varden Place, stole $5,987 from Terry Duckworth Ministries LLC from Feb. 20, 2014, through July 2, 2014.
Badford was held in Buncombe County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
