Grandparents given special roles in Godfrey wedding

From staff reports

Upon their arrival in Aruba for the destination wedding of their granddaughter, Pat and Juanita Willet and Barbara Godfrey, all of Black Mountain, soon discovered they were to play a more active role during the ceremony than to be the honored grandparents.

During the welcome dinner the night before the wedding, granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Godfrey asked her grandmothers to be her flower girls and her grandfather to be the ring bearer.

What a surprise for all three, not to mention a first for all of them. Sarah was married to Gregory Paul Rodriguez during a sunset ceremony on the beautiful beach of Renaissance Island. Seventy-three relatives and friends attended the June 12 ceremony and reception, and many extended their stay to enjoy time in Aruba.

Sarah is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George (Bill) W. Godfrey, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas. Gregory is the son of Ms. Rosa Samaniego, also of San Antonio. The couple also lives in San Antonio.
