This 1980's photograph features the front of McDibb's, a popular music venue that was located on Cherry Street in downtown Black Mountain. Founded in 1978 by David Peele, McDibb's was unique in that it was a family-friendly and smoke-free facility. McDibb's served as a hangout for both patrons and musicians, which resulted in a strong sense of community that ultimately set the precedent for the rise of the Asheville area's music and art scene. The first location of McDibb's was the building that today is home to Town Pump Tavern, but in 1980 it moved up Cherry Street into the building that is now Veranda Cafe. McDibb's closed in 1992, but it is still remembered fondly today by many Valley residents.
