Buncombe County's SWAT team arrested Gabriel Lopez in connection with a shooting that occurred in Black Mountain Jan. 3.

Buncombe County's SWAT team arrested a man Jan. 4 in connection with a shooting in Black Mountain.

According to news releases from the Black Mountain Police Department, the shooting occurred on Rhododendron Ave. around 6 p.m. Jan. 3. The victim, whom police have not identified, was shot during an isolated verbal altercation and was in stable condition at Mission Hospital, police said in a statement.

The department said police were initially looking for a black pickup truck in connection with the incident.

A news release said the truck was located around 2 p.m. Jan. 4. Upon locating the truck, warrants were issued for the arrest of Gabriel Lopez on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

"The Black Mountain Police Department requested assistance from the Buncombe County SWAT Team who successfully served the warrant and took the suspect into custody," a Jan. 4 news release said.

The Black Mountain Police Department said this is an ongoing investigation.
