This photograph from the Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center’s collections shows several men standing on one of the earliest bridges to cross the Swannanoa River. The bridge was built in 1900 by the Converse Bridge Company of Chattanooga, Tennessee. In earlier times, locals and visitors would have crossed the Swannanoa by wading, riding on horseback or fording the river by wagon.
