Valley Rewind: Winter carolers in Black Mountain

Special to Black Mountain News
This photograph by Swannanoa Valley photographer Ed DuPuy shows several winter carolers framed by evergreens.

It's getting to be that time of year! This photograph by Swannanoa Valley photographer Edward L. DuPuy shows several winter carolers framed by evergreens. While these singers are wearing jackets and scarves, their rolled-up pants and sneakers imply that the weather may be warmer than one might assume at first glance! Born in Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1914, photographer Ed DuPuy moved to Black Mountain as a teenager. From the 1950s until the 1980s, he made a living photographing weddings, special events, conference groups, real estate and commercial subjects, but he would also capture everyday life and landscapes around Black Mountain out of pure interest. If any readers can identify these singers, please let the museum know at svmvolunteer@gmail.com.
