Owen High boys basketball team loses season opener
The Owen High Warhorses lost their boys basketball season opener Nov. 23 at home to West Henderson.
"There were positives that we took away," said coach John Lattimore. "Something to build on."
West Henderson took a significant lead before halftime, increasing the deficit in the third quarter and defeating the Warhorses 80-46.
The Falcons won the tipoff and put up a series of points before Owen got on the scoreboard. Two 3-point shots by guard Alex Sanchez and forward Malik Hill closed the gap but, West Henderson continued to score.
At the start of the third quarter, West Henderson took a 64-36 lead and closed out the game.
Owen went 2 for 11 in 3-pointers. Junior Hunter Inabinett and senior Briggs Barker lead the Warhorses with 12 points each. Junior DJ Graves added seven points.
Despite having a small team, Lattimore said the Warhorses have enough talent to be competitive going into the season.
"We need to do a better job of being disciplined, we need to communicate a little better," Lattimore said. "This game was all things we can control."
