COVID-19 cluster identified at Black Mountain Elementary, says Buncombe County Schools

A cluster of six COVID-19 cases at Black Mountain Elementary was reported by Buncombe County Schools in conjunction with Buncombe County Health and Human Services on Nov. 7.
"All school-related close contacts have been identified, notified and given further guidance regarding testing and quarantine," Buncombe County Schools reported.
According to BCHHS, a cluster is defined by five or more linked cases occurring within a 14-day period. The cluster at Black Mountain Elementary is unrelated to another six-case cluster reported at Erwin High School, according to BCS.
All the cases were lab-confirmed. BCHHS worked with school nurses to perform contact tracing to notify all school-related contacts to those who've tested positive.
The areas on which the cases were found are reported to have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Operations at both Black Mountain Elementary and Erwin High will continue as normal.
