Owen boys soccer celebrates senior night with win over Madison
The Owen boys soccer team defeated Madison on Oct. 27 at the Warhorses final home game of the season to go undefeated in conference play.
"I'm feeling fairly confident in our ability to execute tactics," said coach David Fiest. "We need to make sure that we are focused on midseason form."
Despite a tension-filled game, the Warhorses claimed a victory of 4-0.
With Owen leading 1-0 at the end of the first half, a red card sent senior Zack Schwarz to the bench, leaving the Warhorses down a player. Schwarz was penalized for tackling a Madison player and running into him on the ground.
"We've had some pretty heated games with a few teams in our conference," Fiest said.
According to Fiest, Owen's undefeated conference record has caused tensions to run high throughout the series. He said keeping his players calm and collected amidst emotional games has proved to be a difficult.
"It's gotten to us at the end of the season," Fiest said. "We've been focused on keeping our heads and keeping our cool."
A goal from striker Daniel Garcia from a long cross by striker Jason Gun put the Warhorses up 2-0 with about a half hour left in the game. Soon thereafter, Gun scored as well when Madison received a call inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick for Owen.
The final Owen goal came from striker Elijah Caro. The Warhorses victory over Madison capped off an undefeated 10-0 series in the team's conference play.
"Go all in," Fiest said, in preparation for the approaching playoffs.
