Valley Rewind: Mountain View Baptist church
Special to Black Mountain News

In this photograph from the Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center’s extensive photograph collections, funeral attendees stand in front of the Mountain View Baptist church in the North Fork Valley on a rainy Sunday. The site is now under water in the Asheville Watershed’s North Fork Reservoir. A new church was built in 1951, high on a nearby hillside overlooking the lake. Many cultures celebrate and remember the dead in the period from the end of October to the beginning of November, from All Hallow’s Eve in Europe and the U.S. to Día De Los Muertos in Mexico. The museum wishes everyone a safe and happy Halloween and grateful remembrances for those in our community who have passed away.
