Warren Wilson College cancels athletics until March

Warren Wilson College has canceled all competitive athletic events until March 1, 2021, the school announced. Men's and women's basketball and swimming will be affected by this decision.
Director of athletics and adventure sports Joni Williamson said the school is prioritizing the health of the students.
"With the increasing concerns about the virus nationally, and particularly as it relates to athletics, we have determined that conducting outside competition safely is not possible at this time," Williamson said. "The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and community is our highest priority."
Teams will still be able to participate in practice activities "within an environment that promotes teamwork, physical fitness, leadership opportunities and skill development." All practices will follow the college's health protocols in addition to state, NCAA and USCAA guidelines and regulations.
A decision on the status of all other competition will come at a later date.
Administrators believe that the cancellation of fall sports aided in the school having zero cases throughout the fall semester.
