Kirkin of the Tartan in Montreat is May 27

The eerie bagpipe drone of the hymn "Highland Cathedral" will signal the start of a unique pageant and worship service Sunday, May 27 in Montreat. Beginning at 11 a.m., Montreat’s Anderson Auditorium will reverberate with Scottish bagpipes, and nearly 100 tartan banner carriers will march in one of the nation’s largest Kirkin of the Tartan worship services. All are invited, no matter their faith.
Sponsored by the Montreat Scottish Society, the Montreat Scottish Pipes & Drum Band first plays at 10:15 a.m. outside Anderson Auditorium. The 11 a.m. worship service in the auditorium commemorates the ties of family and Scottish heritage, as well as honoring veterans.
The Rev. Dr. John B. Rogers Jr. of Montreat will be guest preacher. An author of several books and a noted preacher, Rogers served at many churches, including Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
