Town is fixing waterline break on S. Ridgeway Ave.

Crews have fixed a mid-morning Tuesday waterline break on South Ridgeway Avenue but have started waterline replacement work that may mean residents there experience half-hour segments of no water.

The line broke during sewer line replacement work that Metropolitan Sewerage District crews are doing on the street, town manager Matt Settlemyer said. The line – so fragile that it broke also on Monday – needs to be replaced. The work could take up to a week and will mean that street residents will be without water for short periods of time, he said.

“Weather permitting, we expect the work to be done by early next week,” Settlemyer said. “I know that’s not ideal.”

"The Town of Black Mountain will be installing a new water line and new water taps in the areas of South Ridgeway Avenue between East State Street and Center Avenue over the course of the next couple of weeks. During the construction it is possible that crews will discover and fix existing leaks which will require water to be shut off without notice for short periods of time. Crews will be working to replace service lines to customers overnight to minimize service disruptions.  

"During this time, you could experience low to no water pressure. Once water service is restored, if you experience cloudy water, please let your cold water run until it clears.
