Santa seen perusing shops around Black Mountain

Santa has been spotted in shops throughout downtown Black Mountain.

Have you seen Santa shopping and dining in downtown Black Mountain? It’s part of a Facebook marketing campaign called “Santa Shops in Black Mountain,” dreamed up by Kim and Tom McMurtry, volunteer creators of a web site and Facebook page called Visit Black Mountain.

Tom has been donning a Santa suit, and Kim has been snapping photos of him all over town. Santa has been enjoying lunch at Veranda Café, buying wine at The Merry Wine Market, eating ice cream at Sweet! On Cherry Street, getting sparkly strands at Mountain Fairy Hair, shopping for toys at Cherry Street Kids, and enjoying other shops.

“We’ve been posting a photo or video every day since Thanksgiving week, each featuring the delicious food and amazing gifts you can find downtown,” Kim said. “We’re encouraging shoppers to `be like Santa’ and support our small businesses this Christmas season.”

The McMurtrys own Europa on Cherry Street. “Of course we hope shoppers will visit Europa,” Tom said, “but we also want our fellow merchants to be successful, so we spend a lot of time on social media promoting Black Mountain. A thriving downtown creates jobs and benefits us all.”
