Black Mountain merchants decorate for holiday
Downtown Black Mountain merchants have collaborated once again to bring a special touch of magic to the Christmas season for holiday shoppers.
Thirty-five live, lighted Christmas trees line the sidewalks of West State Street, Cherry Street, Broadway Avenue, Sutton Avenue and Black Mountain Avenue in downtown.
Kim and Tom McMurtry, owners of Europa, installed three lighted Christmas trees in front of their Cherry Street shop in 2014. Other downtown shop owners were delighted with the look, and each year since, more merchants have participated.
This year, 21 shops, restaurants, and inns in downtown and beyond are participating with lighted trees outside to celebrate the season.
“We hope visitors and locals alike will enjoy the small-town charm of shopping and dining in downtown Black Mountain this Christmas season,” Sydney McDougald, owner of Sweet! on Cherry Street, said.
Participating shops are Antiques on Sutton, Arbor House of Black Mountain B&B, Black Mountain Natural Foods, Blue Ridge Pet Supplies, Bone-a-fide Pet Boutique, Bramblewood, Chifferobe Home & Garden, Common Housefly, C.W. Moose Trading Co., Dang! Mountain Fairy Hair, Design Driven Studio, Europa, SCORE!, Spice it Up, Sweet! on Cherry Street, The Dancing Dragonfly, The Junction, The Merry Wine Market, Town Hardware & General Store, Veranda Café and Gifts, and Visions of Creation Gallery.
The Fraser firs are from Sandy Holler Farms of Buncombe County.
