Black Mountain News

The Local Cloth studio will be busy with fiber art demonstrations, pop-up shops and classes during American Craft Week 2017, Oct. 6-15. Located inside The Refinery, at 207 Coxe Ave., Suite 11, Asheville Local Cloth invites the public to create, experience, learn and shop for hand-felted, hand-dyed, hand-woven and hand-sewn textile art throughout the week.

Black Mountain resident Marian Sinks works at a loom during a previous weaving class at Local Cloth.

Kicking off the week 5-8 p.m., Friday Oct. 6 is the opening of “We Are American Craft Week,” an Asheville Area Arts Council exhibit featuring work by Betty Hilton-Nash and Karen Donde, both textile artists and Local Cloth members. The exhibit runs Oct. 6-20 in the Thom Robinson and Ray Griffin Exhibit Space, also at The Refinery.

Weekends offer three different felting classes. Details, fees and registration information are at localcloth.org.
