Traffic stop results in meth bust
Five charged with trafficking methamphetamine after a vehicle search turns up 39 grams
A routine vehicle stop June 30 resulted in the Black Mountain Police Department seizing more than 39 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Five people were arrested on charges related to trafficking and possessing methamphetamine.
A Black Mountain officer observed a car in a moving violation on East State Street and stopped the vehicle, police chief Shawn Freeman said. The officer saw some movement in the vehicle as he was approaching. What appeared to be drug paraphernalia was visible through the window, Freeman said.
After a search of the vehicle, Ronald James Wisor, Craig Michael Perkins, Christopher Joseph Plumley, Eric Tyler Smith and Kasey Elaine Grindstaff were each arrested on charges of trafficking methamphetamine.
Perkins was charged with possession of a controlled substance on jail premises after a search was conducted at the Buncombe County Detention Center.
“Our officers are working hard keeping drugs off the streets,” Freeman said. “We’re going to keep doing our best to keep Black Mountain as clean as we can.”
Wisor was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute methamphetamine; two counts of simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance; simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held on $150,000 secured bond.
