Public hearing on funeral home rezoning is postponed
Aldermen to hear public input in November
The town of Black Mountain has postponed the Oct. 10 public hearing that would affect a proposed crematory.

The town postponed the hearing until November because of an issue with the Buncombe County Geographical Information System (GIS), town manager Matt Settlemyer said. At issue is a rezoning request made by Harwood Home for Funerals.
The town provides notices of public hearings involving rezoning requests to businesses and residents within 200 feet of the address seeking to be rezoned. On Monday, Buncombe County informed the town that its GIS mapping was inaccurate, resulting in notices being sent to residents and businesses within 160 feet - instead of 200 feet - of the funeral home.
Harwood Home for Funerals has requested its zoning be changed from central business district to highway business district. The November public hearing will be part of the town board of aldermen's regular meeting at town hall.
