Annual book sale
It’s time to clean your book shelves and donated books to the St. James Episcopal annual sale that runs from Sept. 22-25. The church is located at 424 W. State St.
Because of the great success of its book sale last year, St. James Episcopal Church has once again committed itself to the hard work it takes to put on such a large event. This enables the church to provide funds to critical need areas for our local nonprofits.
The book sale dates and times are:
- Thursday, 9/22, noon to 6PM
- Friday, 9/23, noon to 7:30 PM
- Saturday, 9/24, 9 to 5 PM
- Sunday, 9/25 noon until 4 PM.
The church welcomes book and CD donations from the community. There is a table set up outside the Fellowship Hall where the donations can be left if the church is closed. The parish administrator has tax deduction forms for you for your contribution. Because our last sale was only a year ago, most St. James parishioners have not amassed a large amount of books since then. So it will be hepful to try to have as many books as we did last year (more than we could count, but we know it was more than 2,000!).
The more books we have, the more money we can make. Last year, we made about $4,000, and the money all went directly to Swannanoa Valley causes supported by the St. James budget: Habitat for Humanity, The Ministry of Hope Chaplaincy program at Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women, Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry, Bounty & Soul Food Distribution, and Black Mountain Counseling Center.
You can also support the effort by coming to shop. You will find that the sale is extremely well-organized. The Fellowship Hall is divided into Fiction and Nonfiction sections. Books are in boxes that are labeled by sub-genre, with the spines up for easy browsing. Last year, we had a really large section of children’s books as well. Boxes and bags are provided for your shopping ease, and there are plenty of helpers and cashiers to make things run smoothly.
Last year the atmosphere was festive and busy. You will probably see your friends and neighbors, and you can also do some early Christmas shopping. We have a section of “coffee table” books that are very special.
So bring your donations now and plan to shop during the sale. For more information about the sale call 669-2754.
