Robert “Bob” Selzler

Black Mountain

Robert “Bob” Selzler, 98, of Black Mountain passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, N.C.

He was the son of the late Edward Selzler and Amelia Dorr Selzler of Buffalo, N.Y. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Corp of Engineers in the Aleutian Islands.  Bob had a 33-year-career as a metallurgist with the General Electric Corporation in Schenectady, N.Y., and was an avid sportsman throughout his life. His introduction to golf came as a 9-year-old caddy at the Buffalo, N.Y. Country Club and soon after he became an accomplished golfer, as well as, an ice skater, swimmer, and ballroom dancer.  He was a member of the National Ski Patrol well into his 60’s.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, and his beloved wife of 31 years, Edna Ingle.  Surviving are a daughter, Edie Gibbens of Port Orange, FL, step-daughters, Lisa Godfrey of Maryville, TN and Linda Harrell (Don) of Mars Hill, N.C., grandsons, Jeremy Blinn of DeLand, FL, Andrew Blinn of Durham, N.C., step-granddaughter, Danna Stansberry of Mars Hill, N.C.,  step-grandson, Cale Godfrey of Maryville, TN, and eight great grandchildren.

   Marion Elmer Taylor

Berea, KY

Marion Elmer Taylor, 87, formerly of Black Mountain, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Baptist Health in Richmond.

Marion was born in Buncombe County, NC to the late Olen V. and Laura Russell Taylor.  He started his working career with General Electric.  He then transitioned into the banking industry for a number of years.  He retired from Medical Collections in 1997 to enjoy his favorite pastime, woodworking.  He was a member of the Berea Church of Christ and a Korean War veteran with the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Bartlett Taylor; one son, Doug (Nancy) Taylor; and one sister, Evelyn Hart.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Harwood Home for Funerals in Black Mountain, NC.  Burial followed in the Black Mountain City Cemetery in Black Mountain.  Visitation was Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea, KY from 6-9 pm and Thursday from 1-2 pm prior to the funeral service at Harwood Home for Funerals.

A private burial was held at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery on August 12, 2016.  Bob will be remembered for his compassion and his great respect for the sacrifices of our veterans.
